From the new teaser-trailer released today, we have an unusual problem that needs to be addressed.
Optimus Prime may be dead.
There is talk of a new Prime.
That leaves us with a big problem - do we follow this, or not? PERSONALLY I'm curious to see how this all plays out, might be good, and Prime dying is pretty much a prerequisite to every single TF continuity ever. The bigger question is: Who will be the next Prime?
The trailer hints it MIGHT be Smokescreen. (Smokimus Prime, anyone? ;D)
The LOGICAL choice out of all the remaining Autobots is, bizarrely enough, Arcee. She has the most combat experience and is often the #2 in charge.
The toys hint it might be Ultra Magnus - he's carrying the Forge of Solus Prime.
How do we deal with this, folks?

Knowing the past history of Optimus Prime...he will most likely be resurrected somehow. It's happened so many times.
Do you have a link to the new trailer?
Never mind, saw it.
Well, this sure does damper things. I am hopeful the writes won't ruin the series, its been good so far. And since Optimus Prime dies more times than the sun sets in a year, this isn't new.
Since Season 3 will be the final season, this was already going to pose problems. Until the series is over, perhaps we....make our own canon?

We're gonna have to anyways if Prime is done for at the end of the season.
I'm seriously considering we use Prime as the 'Now' point on the timeline and use a ton of IDW/MTMTE back story. The reason I suggest this is because IDW has done the most character development with all of the TFs, and done it well.
Another consideration is this:
We don't use the show FCs at ALL, save for the leaders (Megatron's gonna be a constant, I think, through all of this) and just run our own OCs and some adapted FCs in teams we create. That way we're not eternally waiting for slots to be filled - we can move immediately on what we have and ask for people to fill certain ROLES in the teams instead of waiting and waiting and waiting for someone who just happens to like Bulkhead or Dreadwing and actually play them right.
Thoughts, anyone?

I'm all for creating our own canon. Though Prime canons should still be welcomed in without a fuzz. I also think filling in with IDW/MTMTE is good but also making some of our own backstory as well, or even leaving things open to allow new players more freedom. Just my take on it.

Well, I didn't mean we NEVER use the TFP FCs, I should have been clearer. I mean that we don't rely on them to all be there just to move on with a story or a plot. It's better to work with what we already have than wish for what we don't.

I think we should have our canon start at then end of Season 2. It's ambiguous nature allows for a greater variation in plot. Then using Aligned/Prime canon to fill in the back story, and IDW/MTMTE ideas and plot lines and either use or modify them for future plots.
I would love to see a MECH plot involving Headmasters, or even characters like Prometheus Black. There is a lot of possibility using MECH, and since the Autobot's are disbanded, it would be easier for them to hunt down experimentation subjects.

What if we have it so that MECH starts off with the *Master tech thanks to Silas and Breakdown - capturing Decepticons and experimenting on them? We can also bring in Human-body Pretender Minicons -- just eliminate the retarded animal-shell things that got wonky.

Well, in the recent ep of TFP, Prime was saved by Smokescreen and he, Optimus, is heavily damage. The bot that saved him used a phase shiftier, and pulled him from the wreckage and they are now in a cave somewhere in the united states.
